waivers.tattoo is open to every shop

September 1, 2026 · Chris, waivers.tattoo

In 2023 a friend who runs a tattoo shop asked for something simple: clients signing the consent form on their own phone. No iPad at the counter, and nobody typing names off a clipboard into a spreadsheet at closing.

So I built it. A QR code on the counter opens the shop's own page. The client fills in their info, snaps a photo of their ID, answers the health questions, reads the consent, and signs with their finger. The signed waiver lands in the shop's inbox the second they finish, and the client goes on the shop's list.

That was it. It went on the counter and it stayed there.

What happened next

A few more shops asked for it, a piercing and brow studio too. Nobody trained anybody. The QR code went on the counter and clients scanned it. Since then the shops on it have signed more than 9,900 waivers, a good number of them from a shop in Jacksonville that signs every single day.

For 3 years the most interesting thing about it was that nothing happened. No app update broke it. No sync failed. No records went missing. The forms just kept working, which turns out to be the whole point of a consent record.

Why open the door now

Because the reasons it worked for 6 shops are the reasons it works for 600. Nothing to install, so there is nothing to break. Clients bring their own phone, so there is nothing to charge or drop. The record is written on our side before the client puts their phone away, so an inspector can see it 2 years later.

And because the tools shops are paying for right now mostly bill by the waiver. Pass your cap in a busy month and every extra signature costs $0.15 on WaiverSign and $0.50 on WaiverFile, as those pricing pages stood on 2026-09-21. I never understood charging a shop more for having a good weekend.

What it costs

$50 a year per shop, or $5 a month. Unlimited waivers, unlimited artists, the client list and exports included. No per-waiver fees. You sign your first waivers free, and we ask for a card once you know it fits your counter.

What came next

This post said a shop dashboard and per-state rules were next. Both shipped in the 2 weeks after it: your dashboard at app.waivers.tattoo, where you search waivers, pull up a signed waiver for an inspector, and export your client list yourself, and a form that asks what your state requires, all 50 states and DC, read from each state's own rule. Spanish and the address suggestions came in the same 2 weeks. And whatever the next shop asks for at the counter, which is how every feature so far got built.

If you run a shop, start free: your page is live the moment you finish the form. If you want to see it first, scan the demo on your phone. Takes about a minute.
